Director research

A film director is the person who directs the making of a film. Their responsibility is to over see every creative aspect of a film. Also they coordinate the actors on how to act and determine camera angle to make the film much better and appeal to its target audience.

Some directors have different methods of filming therefore sometimes use the same style in most of their directed films. For example the director James Cameron usually directs films that explore the relationship between humanity and technology, for that reason he only directs action/science fiction films. Some of his most famous films are that of The Terminator, Aliens and Titanic.

For inspiration on the making of our opening sequence I am going to research on a thriller/horror director and see how they demonstrate the conventions of a thriller/horror in their films that they have directed.

James Wan is the well-known director of creating the blockbuster film “Saw” and the writing of its sequel “Saw 2”. Although he is a fresh-faced director, he has become very popular within the Thriller and Horror genre. He has the art for creating an uncomfortable intense atmosphere but does not give too much away. He also directs his films to make the audience ask questions, therefore giving lots of enigmas and disturbing revelations throughout his films to make them appeal to the films target audience and give a sense of mystery.

For our opening sequence, it needs to have the conventions of something like James Wan has delivered in the film “Saw”. An intense, disturbing feel to the opening that appeals to our target audience giving them lots of enigmas from lighting, camera angles and props.
