Catagories of films

Finding research from various websites, I have come up with the classification catagories for films. By doing this it will help us decide what will go into our opening sequence.

Universal - Suitable for all.

Parental Guidance - General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children

Suitable for 12 years and over. No-one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.

Suitable only for 15 years and overNo-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video or DVD.

Suitable only for adults. No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video.

Horror films are typically rated 15 or 18. The reason they are so popular and why there are always so many horror films available is because teenagers and people in their early twenties are the most frequent cinema users. You need to identify what type of horror film you are making and prove it would appeal to a large audience. (Mrs A)
