Analysis of Saw

At the first shot in the sequence you can see that the room is darkly lit with a very small light in a bathtub, just enough to see the protagonists face. From then you see the light disappear and the protagonist wake up. There is then just enough light to see the character and you can see that he is surrounded by and old bathroom furniture suite, broken tiles, and his voice slightly echoes to give a sense of emptiness. There is then a medium camera shot of him just before the main lights of the room come on. He is then shot in a close up view to show the emotion of worry and scarce on his face. The above shot of the lights follows each light as it comes on, and the audio sound of the lights coming on start to become louder. There’s a blurred above point of view shot starring at the lights as the lights have blinded, there is then a zoomed point of view shot to show the other character, the next camera shot shows a twisting birds eye view shot of a dead body on the floor with a screaming over voice. The dead body has a gun in his hand and a tape recorder; up to here this sets the enigma of why are they there? , What are the props in his hand far? How have they got there? , And who is doing this? The props are an old bathroom, chained ankles, the opening sequence is used to scare through not knowing how the characters have got, and that they are ordinary people, The end of the film shows that it was a game of life or death but through most of the film it only gives you slight ideas to keep you in suspense, the opening sequence doesn’t give to much away, but enough to make you want to watch on.

Again would be good to include the actual clip here. Also, how did the lighting, sound etc make ou feel acared exactly? How might you use some of these ideas in your film sequence? (Try not to copy though, you still need o be original). Good work this week!
